Project Description

Anmchara International School was founded in January 2002 on the veranda of a house in a remote, rural village named Sega.  While the school only consisted of 16 pupils on its first day, it would become a beacon of hope and promise for hundreds of children in the surrounding area, who were previously without the opportunity for quality education.

On the day that Mr. Godwin Agudey was introduced to the area, a school such as Anmchara International was not yet even a consideration in a village so small and isolated as Sega.

Yet, with the determination and dedication of community leaders, parents and children, classes were held for the first time in Sega.

Chiefs and leaders in the community quickly saw great promise in this venture and were quick to grant land for the construction of the first primary school in the Kajanya-Sega region. As expected, Anmchara International School has continued to grow and develop into what it boasts today.

Since the humble establishment of Anmchara International School in January 2002, the school has grown to include Nursery, Primary, Junior High and Senior High schools, as well as a kitchen and dining hall where over 800 students are taught and fed every day. Two hundred (200) Boarding students from far off villages are also housed on campus.

The school’s rapid growth can be attributed to the unique intensive learning environment that it provides to its students, as it continues to attract new students from neighboring government run schools.

The difference is found in the dedication of the school’s teachers, parents, community leaders and students in providing quality education to an area that is frequently overlooked, at a minimal price (less than public school fees).

  • Project Summary

The school’s motto of “Share the World,” is embodied through the international links it maintains with schools across the world, along with long term volunteer teachers who share their expertise with the children of the school.

In partnership with the teachers, students and local community, international volunteers add a unique and valuable dimension to the school’s already promising endeavors.

Volunteers are not only welcomed into the school, but are also invited to live as members of the community in which they are working. This fosters and maintains the connection and responsibility that the community has towards the school and its students.

Students are thus truly able to “Share the World” on a daily basis, not only by acquiring new knowledge and experiences from international friends, but also through sharing their own knowledge with newcomers.

Volunteers to the school carry out the following activities: teaching, clerical job, librarian, tutoring children one-on-one, making documentaries, teaching music, sports, and fundraising.

$80 per week, including food and accommodation.
Plus $80 for airport meet & greet and transportation to village

All Volunteer should be 18 years old and over and speak English.
