Project Description
Thai Animal Sanctuary is a self funded and donation based organisation working for the protection and care of animals in North West Thailand. Founded and run by an English woman named Gemma, the sanctuary relies completely on volunteers and donations for the amazing work done. There are a small number of volunteers assisting Gemma to provide a lifeline for animals who would otherwise receive no care or medical attention.
Our mission is to:
- Provide any animal with medical care and a safe place in which to recover;
- Humanely reduce the number of unwanted animals (mainly dogs and cats) through sterilisation programmes;
- Provide a home for life for any animal (through adoption programmes or at the sanctuary;
- To educate on the issues of animal welfare in an effort to promote compassion to all living beings.

Project Summary
We need committed and enthusiastic volunteers all the time to help run the sanctuary on a daily basis.
Volunteers are involved in the day to day running of the sanctuary, feeding animals, cleaning, walking dogs, assisting in providing medical attention to our resident dogs and emergencies cases.
Volunteers also visit temples and rural villages to provide medical attention to sick animals, feed street dogs, help out with fund raising, gaining support, and promotion of the sanctuary. Plus any ideas volunteers think will help!
We run regular sterilization and vaccination programmes. During this time, volunteers help with preparing the animals for operation, catching cats/dogs, releasing cats/dogs, post-operative care etc.
We charge no fees here as we deeply appreciate all help that volunteers can give. There is cheap accommodation available locally, from as little as 100THB (2GBP/3USD) a night for basic room with shared bathroom/fan and more expensive accommodation with private bathroom, aircon etc.
There are free meals available to volunteers in the local school 3 times a day. Most volunteers tend to eat in the school at lunch, and eat in local restaurants at other times. Food in restaurants ranges in price from 30-100THB a meal - cheaper being typical local Thai/Burmese food, and more expensive being Western and imported food.
Travel to/from Bangkok costs ~400THB (8GBP/12USD) each way.
Volunteers should be over 18 years old, Basic English needed Rabies and Tetanus vaccinations, Enthusiasm and flexibility and Commitmed to the project.
