Project Description
The CDS (est. 1990) is a non-profit marine mammal research trust, based in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa. We aim to promote the conservation of marine animals, and the habitats they live in, through responsible research and environmental education.
Volunteers are encouraged to help with surveys, population analysis, dietary studies, identification and monitoring of individual whales and/or dolphins: OBSERVE & CONSERVE.

Project Summary
We offer volunteer experiences to those with little or no marine mammal experience. The centre aims to teach volunteers how to research and care for the beautiful animals while allowing them the freedom to explore and experience South Africa at its best.
Volunteer work includes:
Marine mammal surveys (land & boat)
Dietary analysis
Course work on biology of marine mammals and research techniques
Photo id and cataloguing of whales and dolphins.
Environmental education with local school children
GBP 185 per week. Includes accommodation, evening meal, linen, laundry and transport to and from the office (weekdays), accommodation is in a Bunk house (5 rooms with bunk beds) with lounge/dining/kitchen area, showers and toilets. Outside deck overlooks Elephant Park. Linen & laundry provided. TV and DVD.
Volunteers aged 18 years old and over No particular skills needed - enthusiasm and an interest in marine life is all we ask!
