Project Description

Chiloé-Silvestre is an independent non-governmental organisation, with no lucrative aims created to contribute to improve and assure the conservation, education and rehabilitation project of Chilean wildlife species in Chiloé Island, Chile allowing volunteers for short and long term to be part in educational program, construction and maintenance of animals and animal’s installations. The project is in a beautiful environment on Lacuy peninsula in Chiloé Island.

Those interested in participating in this beautiful project, the centre gives them the opportunity to be part of it. The centre develops a variety of activities in which you need help. We encourage you to participate in any of them.


Areas where you can participate:


RESCUE, CLINIC AND REHABILITATION
This area includes animal rescue, handling, cleaning, feeding animals, construction and repair of facilities, participate in the observation of animals pre-release and post release and, according to the preparation of the volunteer, animal medicine in rehabilitation.


INVESTIGATION
It includes fieldwork for sampling or animal tracking, laboratory analysis, data analysis, etc. It will depend on the investigations being carried out.


EDUCATION
It includes assistance in the creation of various educational and audiovisual materials, participate in educational workshops for adults and children about the wildlife around them. It will also be important to the maintenance of the school, where there will be animals that must be cared for and fed. 

All areas are very important and usually include intensive physical labour and equipment. We also hope to have a very good atmosphere. All volunteers will spend time in each of the areas as a form of general learning. However, if you have a specific skill or interest in particular with which you can help us, you will be assessed together to work on it.

The schedule will be approximately 09:00 to 13:00, then a break where there will be time for lunch and to share, then return to the task at las15: 00 and will continue until 19:00, however, and according to the desire you have can devote more time to help build and maintain this beautiful project. The timetable may be altered according to the needs and climatic conditions, notice to all volunteers, but always punctuality and respect for others is required.

Lodging is cost free currently; however, food is the volunteer’s responsibility. A volunteer cooperation’s will be thankful. Accommodation is in the same house we will rehabilitate, or in a tent, Sleeping bags required. We want create a friendly atmosphere and besides a good experience of community life.

Preferably be over 18 years, having eager to learn and help. 
Possess ability to work together. To be accountable to all. It is essential to have good sense of humour. The working language is Spanish, but as we will have the presence of foreign volunteers, the language will not be required, as some also speak English. Always we try to encourage volunteers to learn Spanish while they are here, but as we said, is not essential to work with us, but we hope that volunteers make the best effort to communicate.
