Project Description
Cofradia Bilingual School serves the town of Cofradia by providing high-quality, affordable bilingual education, and a level of community involvement that is all but absent from local public schools.
Thanks to a devoted team of internationally-recruited volunteers and locally recruited Honduran teachers, students at the Cofradia Bilingual School receive more in-depth, expert instruction in all subject areas than would otherwise be available.
The school is founded on the principle that education empowers students to lead lives of their own creation. Students who attend CBS become responsible, motivated, and passionate people ready to build a brighter future for themselves, their community and their country.

Project Summary
Cofradia’s Bilingual School has positions open for both long-term and short-term volunteers.
Long-term volunteer must be able to commit to the 10-month academic year (mid-Aug to early-June) and they act as the primary teachers for each grade, teaching English, science, math (grades 1-4 only), P.E. and art.
Although there is a curriculum to follow, all volunteer teachers must plan and teach their lessons, write and correct both tests and homework, and participate in all school functions.
Short-term volunteers can pick the length of their stay and act as teacher assistants to the volunteer teachers during their time at CBS.
Long-term volunteer who can commit to the full 10month academic year receive free accommodation at one of the volunteer houses and a light snack and lunch from the school each school day. The only daily expense to the volunteer is breakfast and dinner during the week and all meals on weekends.
Long-term volunteers also need to cover the expenses of visa-runs (renewing their Honduran visa, usually 3 visa-runs during their stay) as well as any other travel they would like to do while in Honduras. Normally we ask volunteers to plan around $100 (USD) a month for expenses and around $100 (USD) for each visa-run.
Short-term volunteers pay $100 (USD) for each week of their visit and in return receive a home-stay with one of our Honduran teachers from the school and all meals provided for. Their only expense is any travel they wish to do within the country.
Volunteers with CBS must be 21-years-old and be fluent in English. Although teaching experience is not a requirement to volunteer, any experience either teaching or working with children is beneficial.
