Project Description

We are a 501c3 non-profit organization registered in both Ghana and the United States. We understand the needs in developing countries, but we have a different concept of what "help" means. We believe that simply throwing money or donations at the problem is not the answer. In order to create change, we believe we must empower the people to make change for themselves. Our programs are aimed at developing communities, and developing leaders, so that real change can begin.

Some of the issues we are most passionate about are:

Prevention of Child Trafficking
Building a Home and Community Resource Center to Rescue Trafficked Children
Providing Educational Opportunities for All Children
Creating Sustainable Programs for Empowerment
Women's and Girls' Empowerment

  • Project Summary

As many as one out of every three children in Ghana is a victim of child trafficking or child labour. Take a second to let that sink in.

Rural areas have a particularly difficult time recruiting and retaining teachers, yet these areas often need education the most. Without education, the cycle of poverty that drives children to work and mothers to sell their children will continue.

Teach in a preschool, primary school or junior high school in beautiful Tafi Atome, home of one of the most beautiful monkey sanctuaries in West Africa.

No teaching experience is necessary ... if you're reading this; you are already qualified to teach the most basic need -- English!

You will stay in a comfortable hostel with clean water and electricity available. The community is very welcoming and there is plenty to see and do in your spare time!

Medical volunteers are also needed. The rural clinic is often very busy, and education for medical workers is often lacking.

Average cost per day (USD): $20.00
1 week: US $370
2 weeks: US $490
3 weeks: US $580
4 weeks: US $660
5 weeks: US $740
6 weeks: US $820
7 weeks: US $910
8 weeks: US $990
9 weeks: US $1070
10 weeks: US $1150
11 weeks: US $1330
12 weeks: US $1400
This includes basic food, lodging, and ground coordination. Additional food or beverages, toiletries (available locally), and travel/transportation are not included.

No teaching degree is required to volunteer to teach. You just have to be ready and willing, and open minded to cultural differences.

Social workers are also always welcome. Several of the projects could benefit from someone with a background in social work.

Medical volunteers are also needed.

We would also love to have volunteers document their experience. There are many stories to be told. If you are a film or journalism major, we need you!
