Project Description
CWF is a popular English-language centre for Cambodians in Phnom Penh and is a socially ethical organization committed to a sustainable model of learning and cultural exchange. CWF’s Volunteer in Cambodia program offers a unique volunteer experience as our teaching program allows volunteers to pass on valuable language skills whilst experiencing life in Cambodia’s capital city, Phnom Penh.
Our model benefits both our students and volunteers, and also enables us to provide a sustainable source of funding to our local partner NGO, the Cambodian Rural Development Team, whose work benefits some of the poorest rural communities in Northeast Cambodia. We have raised over US$80,000 for the Cambodian Rural Development Team, helping them to deliver their community-driven environment and rural development projects. Please visit CDRT’s website for more information (www.crdt.org.kh ).
Since 2006, CWF have hosted more than 350 long term volunteers, enrolled over 15,000 Cambodian students, offering affordable conversational English courses to help improve Cambodian livelihoods, and provide opportunities for personal growth, confidence, and international awareness. As of August 2012, we are in our 25th semester, and hope to continue to grow our organisation.
Our volunteers take home an unforgettable experience – new skills, lifelong friends, new career opportunities, and knowledge that their 3 month contribution made a real, lasting impact on their student’s lives, and the future of Cambodia.

Project Summary
Our volunteers commit to teaching our conversational English syllabus for one full semester. This includes a 10 day orientation program with introduction to Cambodian culture, language, safety and security, and teaching workshops, and a trip to visit our followed by 11 weeks of classroom teaching in our well-equipped school.
4 classes per day (1 hour each), Monday to Friday (except during public holidays)
1 additional hour is reserved for back up – in case another volunteer is unwell
Each volunteer is assigned a schedule based on our student’s needs and availability. Some volunteers will teach early morning classes and then again mid-afternoon, leaving much of the day free to prepare lessons and explore Phnom Penh. We offer students classes in the following hours:
6:00am
7:00am
11:00am
12:00pm
4:00pm
5:05pm
6:10pm
7:15pm
These hours reflect our student’s availability – most of our students also study at high school or university 6 days per week, work full or part time 6 days/week, and have family commitments.
Outside of their teaching schedule, volunteers are free to explore the many incredible sights around Phnom Penh, and every semester has at least one long public holiday where volunteers can venture out into the provinces to see the rest of the country.
Siem Reap, is a popular destination, with the mind-blowing Ankor Wat complex; relax on the river in Kampot and take a ride up Phnom Bokor to see the abandoned French resort town; or venture into the highlands of Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri.
There is no cost to join or participate in our program.
Volunteers who choose to live in the share house we manage must pay US$850.
