Project Description
HondurasChildren is a small NGO operating in the community of El Porvenir, just a few minutes west of the La Ceiba airport.
With four “hands on” board members and a crew of dedicated volunteers from all over the world, we operate a Kinder / Day-care, an English Program that we call “PEP” (Porvenir English Program), a literacy project called the "Reader's Club" and a Vacation Activities Program (VAP) to provide enrichment activities, academic support, creative arts and sports when the children are on break from school. We regularly host university groups and youth-groups and have ongoing teams from Duke University and Virginia Tech.
Our volunteer-powered projects expand the children’s horizons and support their education, while in turn, providing our volunteers with life changing opportunities to improve the daily existence of children who deserve so much more than they have.

Project Summary
Kinder Volunteers work Monday thru Friday from 7:30 a.m. to noon.
PEP & VAP volunteers work a morning and afternoon shift Monday thru Thursday (about 5 hrs total) with a short special activity on Friday mornings.
All volunteers are welcome to also become involved with the Reader's Club literacy project and the adult English program.
Our projects are 99% volunteer powered so this is not an "assistant's" position. Our volunteers have ongoing input into the activities and projects for the children and work as a team to plan curriculum.
Housing is available at our clean and comfortable volunteer houses for $35 USD per week for the first 6 weeks and then $28 USD per week after that.
Volunteers purchase and prepare their own food and several local markets are within walking distance.
We are surrounded by the pineapple fields so fresh fruit is inexpensive and plentiful.
Each house has a fully equipped kitchen. Volunteer houses have electricity (same outlets as US & Canada) and bathrooms with showers.
Our volunteer houses are all within 2 blocks of the beach and one is actually beachfront!
We prefer volunteer of age 20 and older but will consider those of 18 & 19 if they have strong skills in Spanish. We accept volunteers at all levels of Spanish fluency but suggest studying as much in advance as possible.
The projects are located in the village of El Porvenir, Atlantida, Honduras.
