Project Description
Hue Help was established in July 2006, and registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales in December 2006. Hue Help was founded as cooperation between American and British students and Vietnamese NGO professionals, who in 2006 observed that a small amount of money could go a long way in addressing the many un-met health, education and safety needs of the city’s poor children, in particular at its nine major orphanages.
Since our founding, we have grown in size and capacity, hiring full time staff and operating numerous programmes throughout the Thừa Thiên–Huế province, designed to improve the quality of life of disadvantaged children.
We want local people to be the driving force behind our operations in Vietnam. We employ local professionals for many of our operations on a day to day basis, and use participatory methods to ensure the people our work helps are at the heart of our programme development.
Hue Help is one of about 20 international non-governmental organisations operating in Huế; and one of only a handful focusing on working with disadvantaged children.
Hue Help is the main sponsor of the Hue Children's shelter (formally known as the ‘Home of Affection orphanage’) which is home currently to thirty seven children, who have either no parents, or parents that are too poor or sick to care for them; as well as supporting several other shelters and certain other projects (Swimming for Safety in the rural Phú Lộc province) and health / education projects for other children in need. Although a fairly recent INGO, Hue Help has a good reputation and is well respected within the INGO community.
Hue Help is completely non-profit, non-political and non-religious organisation.

Project Summary
This programme has been designed for those interested in an inexpensive voluntary position, looking for a range of teaching experience (from children to young adults), and of course those who want to experience Vietnam by immersing themselves into the local community. Some of our projects do not have a syllabus, so we also need our volunteers to be imaginative classroom planners.
We are looking for hard-working, enthusiastic, independent volunteers that are interested in other cultures and consider themselves adaptable to new situations. Volunteers are not required to have special skill sets, but having special skills will give the volunteers more opportunities to contribute to the community.
Volunteers generally work at 3-4 placements and usually teach for 20hrs per week (including preparation time). This programme has four 3-month stages per year and you will be invited to apply for one of those time periods. When writing your application, please make sure that the specified dates coincide with the following stages:

Stage 2 – First week of April-Last week of June
Stage 3 – First week of July-Last week of September
