Project Description
Kiya Tanzania will be collaborating with Dymphna Special School, which was established in 2002 by Mary Kaswende. The school is a learning centre for children and young people with disabilities and special educational needs. We will be collaborating in order to create sustainability for the centre and make it possible for the brilliant work they do to continue on in the future.
The volunteer scheme will fund the wages of much needed staff: Physiotherapist, Speech therapist and psychologist and the running cost of the Outreach Programme. Both areas are fundamentally important for schools and charities working with children with special needs.
The Outreach Programme is aimed at providing basic needs for families living in remote areas and in extreme poverty. The programme includes education on health, hygiene, rights, counselling the families and construction of necessary household appliances etc.
The life skills programme provides the young adults who attend the centre important skills in order to integrate back into society, and be able to apply and successfully attain jobs within the local community. Workshops include: jewellery making, baking and cooking, gardening, arts and crafts etc.
