Project Description

The Macaws Biological Station (EBG) is a tool for conservation and research of mixed heritage. EBG is located South-East of Laguna del Tigre National Park in the Maya Biosphere Reserve, Petén, Guatemala.


EBG promote the "responsible Alternative Tourism" with participation of local communities and strategic alliances with public and private sector. This approach is supported by early work of Social and Environmental Responsibility, which reflect and influence in promoting the work of protection and conservation of natural and cultural resources of the south-east of the Laguna  Tigre and the capacity building and economic alternatives to their surrounding communities.


Its aims:

  • Mixed heritage of the south-east of the Laguna of Tigre.
  • Develop Biological Station as a high quality tourist destination in the Maya Biosphere Reserve through strategic alliances with local actors and the private sector

Guacamayas Biological Station offers the volunteer, the opportunity to be in a place with a majestic landscape and rich biodiversity in natural and cultural environment, which allows perfect inspiration for the development of project specific objectives of the station.


The station has created a work program for volunteers according to their skills and experience in the technical and professional volunteers perform dynamic work focused on specific activities that take place daily at the station as well as scheduled activities in neighbouring communities.


We need: builders, English teachers, painters, actors and people who are interested in the daily work.
Hours of work: Monday to Friday 7:00 am to 12:00 pm (we work a half day due to temperature)

Monday to Friday $ 80.00

Saturday and Sunday $ 20.00

Fees include food, lodging, transportation and purified water.

Be at least 18 years old, have a good level of fitness, proactive and hardworking.
Level of Spanish does not matter, because here you can learn to speak Spanish.
