Project Description
Muodjo Cultural Center was established in 2005 and is located in the Maputo rural area of Mozambique. Muodjo’s mission it o assist vulnerable children and develop their cultural abilities, with special focus on streets children and orphans.
So far about 70 children in the community are immediately benefiting from Muodjo with up to 30 children live in the centre.
Muodjo Cultural Center is based in suburb, about an hour outside of the bustling city of Maputo, and run by Osvaldo Laurenco, who was once an abandoned child and had lived on the street and in orphan homes. When priests took care of him, they discovered his talent for music and gave him the opportunity to study. Now he has a degree in music education and one of Muodjo's projects is a music workshop with traditional African instruments.
The Cultural Association ‘Muodjo’ aims to support disadvantaged children in the community, most of whom are orphaned because of HIV/AIDS and live with elderly relatives who have little means of supporting them, or have become Street children, living on the Streets in Maputo City
Education and the well being of society is an initiative that the Mozambican Government, together with organisations and individuals are working on without discrimination, regardless of race, colour, sex, religion, or political opinion, national origin, ethnic or social origin, economic status, disability, birth or other social status. The Cultural Association ‘Muodjo’ is contributing towards this initiative by providing an educational and social space for young children in the community of Matendene.
