Project Description

Phayalaw Wittayakhom School was built in 1984. It is located at 529 Moo 11 Thungroungthong district, Chun district, Phayao Province. The Thai government chose to build the school at this location in order to cater to the growing population in the area as well as to help develop up the surrounding area.


The school is located 1.5hours away from the city of Chiang Rai and about 30minutes away from the smaller town of Chun. It is located approximately 5hours away from Chiang Mai.


The public school in the rural area caters to 550 students between the ages of 12 - 18 years old. The 550 students are distributed between grades 7 - 12. There are 220 students between grade 7 - 9 and 330 students between grades 10 - 12.


There are 35 teachers who teach a variety of subjects, subjects taught include: Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Computer studies, Art, Dance, Engineering, Social studies, Home economics, English, Thai, Chinese, Thai cooking, Thai classical studies and Economics.


Phayalaw Wittayakhom School aims to manage and develop the school in order to reach the rigorous education standards required by the Thai government in order to give students the best possible education.

Volunteers will have the primary purpose of teaching English to classes of approximately 25 students between the ages of 12 - 18 years old. Volunteers will teach between 3 - 4 hours a day with one of the schools English teachers. They will have the opportunity to create their own teaching plans for classes, or follow a readymade one. It is also assumed that volunteers will help teachers with basic admin work like marking tests.

The school will provide meals for volunteers as well as accommodation according to availability.

At least 16 years old, some English teaching experience preferred however not required. Outgoing and friendly personality in order to get along with students and open to new experiences.
