Project Description

The Rural Development Centre (RUDEC) started in the South West Region in 2001, its activities in the North West Region in Belo started in 2005. RUDEC was registered in February 2006 as a Common Initiative Group (CIG). In December 2011 RUDEC was upgraded to an association as not for profit organization with a wider operational scope. The idea for RUDEC came about as a means to create opportunities for the Cameroonian youths.

The founders realized that by focusing on the needs of rural people, a centre such as RUDEC could empower and benefit local communities. Members are involved in grassroots participatory programs and are advocates of rural development in Belo, Boyo Division and beyond. RUDEC’s mission, as a non-governmental organization, is to continually seek resources that can promote the socio-economic empowerment of the underprivileged, contribute toward community development and skill sharing through voluntary interchange in Cameroonian communities.

  • Project Summary

Volunteering in Cameroon with RUDEC is a great opportunity to help the community and the underprivileged person. RUDEC volunteers have impacted the lives of the local communities. We can see now in the community that children have interest in learning unlike before, when kids just played around after school.

The support to our orphan project cannot be over emphasized as we can see kids going to school and tutoring, getting vaccination, and HIV/AIDS being checked with the support from volunteers.
The community is very happy when we have volunteers to work on any projects. Volunteers will work 40 hours a week. They will teach, fundraise, write newsletters, and visit children in homes.

Project investment donation is dependent on length of volunteer stay and payable on arrival:
1 day - 3 months is  275 Euros
4 - 6 Months is  175 Euros
7 Months and over 50 Euros
Rent is 54 Euros/Month
Airport Pickup 88 Euros
Food and cooking 3 Euros/day

Volunteers should be motivated on what they wish to do and any additional skills will be an added advantage. The minimum volunteer age is 19 years old and the only language requirement is English.
