Project Description
Hessilhead Wildlife Rescue is situated near Beith in North Ayrshire. It occupies a 20 acre site, including woodland, marsh and open water. This gives a variety of release sites for our patients.
We aim to rescue, treat, rehabilitate and release birds and animals back to the wild, and we have the facilities and experience to treat all species of Scottish wildlife.
Resources at the Centre include an intensive care unit, a swan/seal hospital with indoor pool, a hedgehog unit, a surgery and more than 60 outdoor aviaries, enclosures and release pens.
The centre has a 24hr emergency service, and is available to give advice on wildlife problems throughout the day.

Project Summary
Hessilhead depends on volunteers to keep the centre running. We would like to hear from dedicated, hard working people willing to volunteer either as part of our wildlife care team or maintenance team. Training is given on site, but plenty of common sense and an ability to cope with a variety of tasks is required for this rewarding job. You can help Hessilhead by volunteering your time, services or garden.
Volunteers help with all aspects of the Trust's work. Includes rescue, treatment, feeding, cleaning, preparing of birds and animals for release and post-release monitoring. Educational work with the public may be possible.
Rescue, care, rehabilitate and release all native species of wild birds and mammals. Hand rearing, cleaning and feeding animals; maintenance and construction work and monitoring the casualties after release. Some groups of birds will be ringed, and hopefully some species will be radio-tracked.
GB£10 (approx. EUR 15) per week for cabins. Food must be provided by the volunteer. Volunteers must arrange their own transport, though can be collected from Glasgow.
Ability to work as part of a team. Training will be given. Experience of radio tracking could be useful. Veterinary experience useful.
