Project Description
Seeds of Hope provides a safe environment to help impoverished students achieve academic and social success. To achieve this, we use a multi- faceted approach, combining tutoring, emotional well- being classes, daily nutritious meals and a family environment focused on educational success.
The mission of Seeds of Hope is to support children living in extreme poverty in Huaraz, Peru and to provide vocational training for those without economic means.
Our Objectives
- Provide students with a strong academic and personal education, founded on values and principles which will improve their prospects for the future and develop their potential for independent thought.
- Aid our students with medical assistance as required, either by our trained professionals or in conjunction with other organizations.
- Teach our students to practice personal hygiene.
- Provide our students with clothes, shoes and school equipment.
- Give our students the emotional support they need while they are part of the organization.
- Fight for the rights of the children and provide them and their families with legal assistance where needed.

Project Summary
We always need volunteers to help at Seeds of Hope and welcome anyone with a positive outlook and enthusiasm. There are lots of opportunities you can participate and volunteer with us, whether it is working directly with the children or behind the scenes. We currently need teachers, social workers, psychologists, project coordinators, language professionals, marketing and fundraising professionals. All are truly rewarding experiences.
We welcome international volunteers from all backgrounds to work on our projects. Previous volunteers have come from the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, and Japan. They’ve brought with them a variety of skills from teaching to engineering. They usually come to us while traveling in Peru, on a gap year, during retirement or simply for a working holiday.
We have opportunities working with the children or behind the scenes and currently need teachers, social workers, psychologists, project coordinators, medically trained people, language professionals, marketing and fundraising professionals.

As an international volunteer, we ask for a monthly fee since we are still such a small NGO and our funding is limited. Much of our annual budget comes from volunteers. We require a $200.00 monthly volunteer fee. This money goes directly towards the children and operational costs of keeping Seeds running. We do have reduced costs for volunteers who are willing to make a commitment of more than 6 months.
As for other costs, accommodation is between 500 and 800 Peruvian soles per month (approximately 200 to 400 dollars). There is no fee for transportation within Huaraz, but the volunteer must pay for their own transport to Huaraz. Huaraz is a fairly cheap city to live in; one can live off a tight budget of 15 soles per day if they cook for themselves and watch their spending.
The volunteers must be over 18 years old. Spanish is not required.
