Project Description

SEREP is a nongovernmental, non-profit charity organization in Cameroon. Its main aim is to educate, advocate and participate in rural developmental projects.

SEREP has been hosting volunteers from many parts of the world since 2005.

ACTIVITIES

Education:

We own and run a Youth Training centre for orphaned and vulnerable youths of ages between 12 and 18. Due to high prevalence rate of HIVAIDS in the part of the country, the number of orphaned and vulnerable children continues to rise in a daily form. We identify those who are desperate and are ready to receive life skill training and admit them in this training centre.

We also offer soft ware and hard ware computer courses beside our small community Cyber.  This is to insert computer illiterate in to the computer world and this has become an essential tool to every educated person.
Advocacy:

We advocate for these children, women and our communities and facilitate the realization of their identified felt need projects and programmes.

Community Development:

We educate and facilitate rural community projects like water, School construction and Health centres.

  • Project Summary

Volunteers work on the above areas depending on the skills or areas of interest.

Volunteers can teach subjects that they can help in the school and in the Soft and Hard ware department.
Some can work with our women groups projects like HIV/AIDS education programs  and Palm oil, Nurses can work in our local health centres, and within our  community projects of  their choice and depending on their skills and intent of  volunteering.

Some volunteers can work on our construction projects ie. Builders, painters, carpenters and above all fund raising.

We also work with volunteers who would like to work in administration and make research on possible fundraising, partnership and organizational development.

Accommodation is free because the cost of rent is paid.  Volunteers only contribute 3000 FRS CFa monthly for water and electricity bills, this is paid to the office.

Volunteers are expected to pay a onetime donation of 100 pounds and can donate more if possible or fundraise prior to their placement, within or after their placement.

Cost of living in Kumbo if very low and volunteers can spend about 4 – 6 Euros daily depending on the way they spend otherwise averagely it ranges between 3 – 4 Euros for non alcoholic consumers.

However charity works can increase  expenses as the people are very friendly and at times with their local interaction, volunteers are willing to extend some charity to people who are so concern especially when old mothers in villages would always like to offer them  local food  and their widows mites.

Volunteers should be in a good physical condition and over 18 years old, skills will determine available placements.
