Project Description

Sevalaya functions in an hamlet, kasuva near Thiruniravur 40km west of Chennai.

Swami Vivekananda Boys’ and Mother Teresa Girls’ home are orphanages whose inmates are poor, destitute and orphan children. we provide them food, shelter, education ,skill  development and talent promotion besides the much needed love and affection.

Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Old Age home supports poor and destitute senior citizens male and female.

Mahakavi  Bharathiyar higher secondary school provides free education up to 12th standard. All students are supplied free uniforms, textbooks, and notebooks. Training in crafts and teachings of Gandhiji, Bharathi, and Vivekananda is a special feature of our school. Our other facilities include

Kasturba craft training center for village women,

Vinobaji Goshala for tending dry cows.

Mahatma Gandhiji Medical Center and

Swami Vivekananda Library all of which cater to surrounding villages.

All services are rendered free of charge and without any distinction of caste, creed, language or religion. Sevalaya also has centers in Vadanallur village in Kancheepuram district and Aayalur village in Thiruvallur district.

We have lot of service options for volunteers, based on area of work and skill required. The various service options are Data entry, Teaching, Learning, Materials Preparation, Class Handling, Sports, News Letter Work, Office, Painting, Mentors, Agriculture, Kitchen, Electrical & Plumping, Mechanical work, Carpentry work, Library, Cleaning, Building Relationships, Project, Proposals, Public Relation, Arranging Programs.


Knowledge and experience in the relevant field is required for the volunteers who were going to do service at our campus. The time required for the work varies from one to one another. For example, taking class is regular work but painting will be done once in a year. Normally volunteers work 6 to 8 hours per day, for 6 days in a week.

Sevalaya does not charge any money for volunteers stay. As the volunteers have come to do service, it is Sevalaya’s duty to give free accommodation and food. Any extra expenses have to be borne by the volunteers. Volunteers have to make their own travel arrangements.

The campus in-charge will allocate work to you on arrival, based on your interest and capabilities. While in campus, you need to follow the timetable of the campus. There are no requirements for any specific skills. You must have working knowledge of English.
