Aang Serian Peace Village - Mudungoda - Sri Lanka - (click for project page) We inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. We collect, conserve and propagate fast-disappearing native wild fruit trees. We also work to document traditional horticultural knowledge for the benefit of future generations in Sri Lanka. Nature Conservation Society - Aluthgama - Sri Lanka - (click for project page) The NCS wants to help saving the unique nature and creating a healthy environment for the local communities. To overcome the current problems, a fundamental understanding of nature and wildlife conservation on one hand and of human needs on the other hand has to be developed. To care for the environment and the nature means also to care about the people who live in it - because one cannot live without the other and both are influencing the other respectively. SWARNABHOOMI - Kelaniya - Sri Lanka - (click for project page) Volunteer Internships are offered for research students and interested individuals seeking work experience. The selected volunteer interns will have the opportunity of working independently and in a team, with on-site scientists, researchers or service staff in education, scientific research and community development. Turtle Conservation Project - Panadura - Sri Lanka - (click for project page) The Turtle Conservation Project (TCP) developed a unique approach to turtle conservation in Rekawa and continued this up until this day. Firstly, it provides in situ protection for turtle nests. This means that eggs remain where they were laid, with nest protectors providing protection across the entire beach. This maximizes the yield of the nests and ensures as many hatchlings as possible survive into the sea. All nest protectors that are working on Rekawa beach are local men and are former turtle egg poachers. They protect the beach 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, in six hour shifts. |
