Project Description

We are a local Costa Rican family living on a small organic farm. We are in the process of creating a sustainable living situation by utilizing permaculture techniques, protecting the forest that surrounds us, and participating in our local economy.

Villas Mastatal is located about half way between two villages, the village of Mastatal have most amenities; Internet cafe, a bar, pay phone, church, salon and convenience stores, which offer some of the basics, such as toothpaste, soap, and basic food items.

If you need to go to a bank, pharmacy, grocery store, you will need to take a trip into Puriscal. There is one daily morning bus to Puriscal, and one return bus in the afternoon. The trip is 2 hours each way, and gives you 7 hours in Puriscal.

What form of money should I bring for travelling in Costa Rica?

Cash and credit and debit cards are best, travellers Checks are not recommended. We suggest bringing US Dollars and then changing them at a bank in Costa Rica (you will need to have your passport with you to do this).

DO NOT change money at the airport, as the exchange rate is highly unfavourable. Dollars are accepted by many tourist businesses, but you shouldn't count on it - always have Colones with you.

Visa is widely accepted, and Mastercard less so. we at the farm only accept payment in cash form as of now (colones or dollars).
